Bulk Steam Trap Installation

If you are deploying sensors across many traps at once, you can create trap records in bulk by uploading a CSV file. This is faster than entering each trap individually and lets your team prepare the data offline before the field installation.

Who Can Use Bulk Installation

The Asset Manager role or above is required to bulk-install steam traps.

Preparing the CSV

Create a CSV file with one row per steam trap. The following columns are supported:

Required Columns

ColumnDescription
FacilityName of the facility where the trap is installed
LocationSpecific location within the facility (building, line, etc.)
Orifice DiameterTrap orifice diameter (used for cost-of-steam calculations)
ManufacturerTrap manufacturer name
ModelTrap model number or name
Trap TypeType of trap (e.g., inverted bucket, float and thermostatic, thermodynamic)

Optional Columns

ColumnDescription
Sensor MACMAC address of the Eversensor to associate with this trap at install time
Inlet Pressure (PSI)Steam inlet pressure (required for cost calculations)
Pipe SizeNominal pipe diameter
Insulation ThicknessPipe insulation thickness
Piping NotesFree-form notes about the piping configuration
Check ValveWhether a check valve is present (true/false)
StrainerWhether a strainer is present (true/false)
Condensate MainCondensate main details

Uploading the File

  1. In Shoplogix IMS, navigate to the bulk installation workflow (under Steam Traps or Asset Management)
  2. Select the customer / site for this installation
  3. Set the sensor install timezone — this determines how timestamps in your file are interpreted
  4. Upload your CSV file
  5. Review the preview of the first trap in your file to confirm the columns parsed correctly
  6. Confirm to begin the import

Reviewing Results

After the import completes, the system shows:

  • Success table — traps that were created successfully, with their assigned IDs
  • Error table — rows that failed, with a specific error message for each

You can download an error report CSV for any failed rows. Fix the errors in your file and re-upload just the failed rows. Successfully created traps do not need to be re-submitted.

After Upload

Traps created via bulk import are immediately visible in Insights. If you included sensor MAC addresses, the sensor associations are applied at creation time. If you did not include sensor MACs, you can associate sensors to each trap individually after the field installation is complete.

Before the platform generates meaningful analytics for the imported traps, ensure each trap has these values set:

  • Orifice diameter and inlet PSI (for cost calculations)
  • Operation typeContinuous, Seasonal, or Intermittent (defaults to Continuous)
  • Seasonality dates if operation type is Seasonal

See Getting Started for the full initial configuration checklist, and Steam Trap Configuration for the complete list of fields you can set on each trap.
