Gateway Pairing & Sensor Installation

This page covers two hardware setup tasks in Shoplogix IMS: pairing a new Evergateway to your account, and associating an Eversensor with a steam trap or machine.

Pairing a New Evergateway

When a new Evergateway arrives, it needs to be paired to your account before it can start forwarding sensor data. Pairing links the gateway to your customer account and site.

What You Need

  • The gateway powered on and connected to your network
  • The 6-character pairing code — printed on the gateway label or provided in your deployment documentation
  • The Asset Manager role or above

Pairing Steps

  1. In Shoplogix IMS, go to Gateways and select Pair New Gateway
  2. Enter a gateway name — a descriptive label that will identify this device in Insights (e.g., "Boiler Room - Building A")
  3. Select the site to assign this gateway to — this assignment is permanent and cannot be changed after pairing. If you select the wrong site, you will need to contact your account team.
  4. Enter the 6-character pairing code from the gateway label. The code is alphanumeric; you can type it in or paste it.
  5. Select Pair — the gateway registers with the platform

After a successful pairing, you'll see a confirmation showing the gateway name, site, and gateway ID. From there you can customize the gateway configuration or pair another device.

After Pairing

The gateway should appear in your Gateways list as Registered, cloud connected within a few minutes. If it remains in a disconnected or unregistered state, verify:

  • Port 8883 (MQTT/TLS) is open for outbound connections from the gateway's network
  • The gateway has an active internet connection

See Hardware Reference for network requirements and LED status indicators.

Associating a Sensor with an Asset

Each Eversensor must be assigned to a specific steam trap or machine before the platform can attribute readings to that asset. Sensors can be added when initially deploying hardware or swapped later if a sensor is replaced.

What You Need

  • The Eversensor's MAC address (on the sensor label)
  • The asset (steam trap or machine) already created in Insights
  • The Customer User role or above

Installation Steps

  1. Open the steam trap or machine detail page in Insights
  2. Select Add Sensor (or Change Sensor if replacing an existing one)
  3. Search for the sensor by MAC address from the available inventory
  4. Set the sensor install start time — the date and time the sensor was physically installed. This timestamp anchors the historical data to the right asset and must be set accurately; data before this time will not be attributed to this asset.
  5. Select Confirm — the sensor is assigned to the asset

On success, the asset detail page updates to show the new sensor association and will begin displaying readings as data arrives.

Changing a Sensor

If a sensor is physically replaced (due to damage or redeployment), use the same Change Sensor flow. The previous sensor's data remains associated with the asset up to the new sensor's install start time. The new sensor's data is attributed from that point forward, giving you a continuous history on the asset.

For the physical steps involved in swapping a steam trap sensor, see Sensor Installation & Field Troubleshooting.

Sensor Availability

Sensors must be in inventory and unassigned to appear in the search dropdown. If a sensor MAC address is not found, verify:

  • The sensor has powered on and transmitted at least once through an active gateway
  • The sensor is not currently assigned to another asset

Contact your account team if a sensor MAC is not appearing after it has been deployed.
